Helmut Maurerbauer is a hotel and tourism entrepreneur from Vienna, Austria, with more than 30 years in the industry. He has been building in the Dominican Republic since 1991, when he built the Hacienda in Cofresí near Puerto Plata. The Hacienda resorts grew into one of the largest projects in the country in the 1990s and helped drive the rise of tourism on the north coast; GEO magazine describes him as a pioneer of all-inclusive tourism.
Today he leads InStyle Developments, the development side of the family business, where every project is built with attention to quality, craftsmanship and detail.
