New Trauma Hospital in Sosúa: RD$800 Million Investment to Transform Healthcare on the North Coast

Construction is underway on a new state-of-the-art Trauma Hospital in Sosúa, representing an investment of more than RD$800 million. The facility is designed to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the northern region of the Dominican Republic, with a special focus on emergency and trauma care.
The modern, three-story hospital will be equipped with cutting-edge medical technology and a wide range of specialized units, including:
  • Emergency department and trauma shock room for critical interventions
  • Advanced diagnostic imaging (X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI)
  • Fully equipped operating theaters and ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
  • Pre- and postoperative care areas
  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitation services
  • Comprehensive laboratory facilities

Part of a National Trauma Care Network

The Sosúa Trauma Hospital will be integrated into the National Trauma Hospital Network, which already includes the Azua facility and several others under development in Higüey, La Vega, Santo Domingo, Mao, and San Cristóbal. This network aims to double or even triple the number of trauma hospitals available since 2020, ensuring that life-saving services are accessible across the country.

Healthcare Expansion in Puerto Plata Province

In addition to Sosúa, the government has announced new hospital projects in the region:
  • Montellano Hospital: With an investment of approximately RD$200 million, construction is expected to begin in early 2026 to serve Montellano, Sosúa, and neighboring communities.
  • Altamira Hospital: Undergoing restructuring studies to address previous planning challenges, with improvements focused on strengthening primary care centers to support future operations.

A Step Forward for Public Healthcare

The Sosúa Trauma Hospital is set to become a key pillar of modern healthcare in the Dominican Republic’s North Coast. By expanding emergency response capacity, improving infrastructure, and integrating advanced medical services, the project underscores a broader commitment to delivering quality healthcare for all citizens.
