Cabrera

Cabrera is a town and municipality in María Trinidad Sánchez province, at the eastern end of the Dominican Republic's north coast and the western edge of the Scottish Bay (Bahía Escocesa). It was founded on 1 July 1891 under the name Tres Amarras and later renamed after General José Cabrera, a figure of the Dominican Restoration War.

The local economy rests mainly on cattle, meat and milk, along with coconut and rice farming, rather than on large-scale tourism. Travel guides describe it as a cliff-lined fishing and farming town that sees few resort crowds.

Nearby natural sites include Playa Diamante, a shallow bay reached by steps cut into the cliffs, the freshwater cenote Laguna Dudú, and the protected headland of Cabo Francés Viejo. Playa Grande lies a short drive west, and Río San Juan is roughly 22 km away.
